Yesterday’s record-breaking temperatures meant only one thing for dinner – cold sandwiches.

I’d heard very mixed reviews on All About the Bread but since I had a 50% off coupon from Living Social I decided to give the place a shot, especially since it is sandwiched (ha ha) between two places I love – M Cafe and T Salon.
Through the window, it looked like there was a long line. Even though the place was empty (and nicely A/C’d) we decided to get our order to go, because it smelled like bleach in there.

The deli sides were pretty sad…

…the man behind the counter wasn’t the friendliest…

Three strikes against the place so far. I decided not to risk ordering off their menu and customize my own. How can you go wrong?

I ordered a large turkey with “the works” -

Mustard, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, medium peppers, and onions (<—where were they?!) – left off the mayo.

I chose the bigger portion and saved the rest…

…and I have to say that I’m really not looking forward to eating that other half. The sandwich was DROWNING in dressing, so much so that I couldn’t even hold onto the bread at the end, it was so slippery.

And how were the carbs? Well, for a place that calls itself “All About the Bread” it better deliver, right? At least that part did. It was crusty on the outside, soft on the inside. But that’s about it. This place is all about the bread, and not much else.
At least dessert rocked.

I’m “researching” vegan frozen desserts for my next “Our Hen House” podcast review (listen to my cookie one here). Picked up this Praline Crunch Almond Dream from Whole Foods over the weekend.

Two nice cold scoops!

I loved this stuff – it’s about half the price of Coconut Bliss, but it is sweetened with cane juice and isn’t organic, so that’s probably why.
Spent the night with three ice packs pressed against my body while we watched TV. That was a first for me!

I’m sorry about your experience there! It’s never a good start to a restaurant experience if the inside isn’t appealing and the workers are rude. I’d count this restaurant out in the future.. I mean, who can screw up a sandwich? At least you had a great dessert!
I have soggy sandwiches and food places that smell like bleach! Unless you are a hospital…don’t clean with bleach during the day!
Ugh… soggy sandwiches are the worst. At least dessert hit the spot
bah! I hate it when stuff like that happens.. esp about the skipped onion! That place looks like Jimmy Johns… Once I ordered a delivery sandwich from there and they skipped the onions so called to tell them because the sandwich looked really sloppy anyways. They apologized and said they’d bring me another one…and then they brought one that was stuffed to the max with ONLY onions. How rude!
Lame about the sandwich spot. I always feel extra disappointed when it’s a place I’m looking forward to. And then turns out, I could have made whatever I ordered at home even better…. booo!
Ick, sorry about the disappointment!
The bread did look good, but yeah you could even tell from the pics that the sandwich was soaked in dressing! I’d recommend popping it in the oven and eating it toasted for leftovers. It will help with the sogginess.
that ice cream flavor looks awesome
Too bad that sandwich place turned out to be a dud. It looked really cute on the inside!
You weren’t kidding about the dressing! It looked like the sandwich had been dipped! At least you had some yummy ice cream to make up for the sandwich! As for the Foodbuzz festival…I would love to go! I just don’t know if we are going to have the money.
Wow– that sandwich does look like it’s drowning in dressing! Yuck!
Gosh I hate it when restaurants put too much dressing on stuff. It completely ruins it. And how can they forget the stuff you asked to put on the sandwich too? Ughh, so annoying
That lettuce definitely looked drowned in dressing
Bummer about the sandwich..
I must say your dessert looks delish!! I miss Whole Foods. Found myself browsing through the website during my Marketing class yesterday..
Hi There, I am putting together an LA HLB bloggies meet-up for a 1:00 p.m. lunch on Saturday, October 23.
If you are interested in joining us please email me at yellowbrickbeauty@gmail.com and let me know.
Thanks!
The only time a soggy sandwich is a good sandwich is when it’s a hot turkey sammie. The ice cream does sound awesome though. Thank goodness dessert always makes everything better.
Eww. It looks like the dressing-drenched sandwiches that sit wrapped in plastic in the “grab ‘n go” shelves in my school cafeteria. I made the mistake of purchasing the tuna once. It wasn’t pretty.
like the honest review.
I have to say that sandwich looks pretty yuck, and not even just because of the meat. It just looks yuck in general.
Have you tried Nada Moo yet? http://www.nadamoo.com
It’s the only “ice cream” we use in our products. It’s vegan, gluten-free, organic and FABULOUS. I’ve given the maple pecan flavor to plenty of non-vegans who said it was the best Maple Pecan they had ever had and didn’t even know it was vegan. Give it a try if you can get your hands on some! Heck maybe even shoot ‘em an e-mail, they’re super nice so they might send you some to try!
