It’s Alive

I think I’ve created a monster!!!

But I won’t know until tomorrow night. Joy and Corey are coming over, and since there was time this morning, I baked dessert in advance.

“Bake” being a relative term. No ovens were actually turned on.

Yet.

Started off by microwaving 1/2 a bag of mini marshmallows in 2 heaping Tablespoons Coconut Spread for 90 seconds

Since we’ll be playing Resident Evil, I added Frankenberry cereal to go with the monster theme…

…mixed until coated, pressed into a greased 8×8 Pyrex:

I should’ve stopped there. It would have been enough.

But then a lightbulb went off in my head.

“Frankenberry S’mores?!?”

Ding donged a bar of milk chocolate (30 second increments, stir til melted) and poured it on top.

Hmmm.  Frighteningly hideous.

So I did what any mad scientist would do – I buried the evidence.

Oh geez. What have I created?!?

My plan is to broil these tomorrow night until they’re brown and gooey. Any advice on about how long that would take?

Just polished off some melon + miso and am now off to work with Christy – here’s our very first interview talking about our project!!!

UPDATE!!!

The Frankenberry S’mores were a hit –  I broiled them for about 3 minutes (peeked in every 45 seconds).  Check out the results!

  1. no more than five minutes if the broiler is already hot and the pan is close to the heat. maybe ten in a 400 degree oven.

  2. mwahahahaaaaaaa!!! i shall consume like a MONSTER!!!!!!

  3. Or you could complete the mad scientist creation by BRULEE’ing those marshmallows! Muahaha. Seriously though, please take a picture of the final product. It already looks delicious!

  4. Watch it. It will likely brown pretty fast…5 minutes. Not sure, look up a recipe for candies yams. They go in the oven with marshmellows on top.

…I would love to be a guinea pig and try this. Joy (or as I now call her, Joylie) gets to have all the fun.

  5. That is definitely a monster creation!

  6. Ha– cute. Perfect for the movie, too :-)

  7. Yeah, you definitely don’t want to walk away from the oven. When I broiled marshmallows on top of cupcakes I think it took about 3 minutes.

  8. That looks delicious. I think putting it under the broiler for a few minutes is a great idea. Or, if you or someone you know has one of those torches you would use for creme brulee or something?

  9. With the Frankenberry, that would have been good for Halloween! Unfortnately, I really do NOT like marshmallows.

  10. I’d broil it for 3.14159 minutes, since that’s a pretty magical number in nature (and mathematics). Or just a few minutes, keeping an eye on it. :P

  11. frankenberry smores! what a clever idea ;)
